Water, Water, Water

Another lazy start and a sunny day to sweeten the deal.  We decided to retrace our footsteps and take a walk along the Burgundy Canal, where we had been earlier in the week.
After driving through the vineyards where the pickets were still hard at work, we wound our way along the Canal to Vandenesse for our walk.  With a pretty little village and views of the castle in Chateauneuf (where we stopped a few days earlier), we chose a perfect spot for a walk.

Each lock along the Canal (there 209 locks in total) has a little house where the person who operates the lock lives.
Some locks, like this one, are even hand operated.
After our walk we stopped for a picnic and a chance for Catherine to kick a bit before hopping back in the car and heading back to Beaune for naps all around.
With well-rested children, we decided to have our last Burgundian dinner at a restaurant.  We took a new street into town and found a cute little toy store full of wooden toys.  Noah proudly carried his new helicopter as we made our way to the center of town.
What better way to end our time in Burgundy then with a little splurge on a good quality wine - something I'd never be able to afford at home and from a vineyard where we had actually watched the grapes being harvested.
