Beautiful Countryside Retreat

After a long flight followed by a two-hour drive with two tired (but surprisingly cooperative) children, we arrived to a warm welcome at our little hideaway in the Bavarian countryside.  The owner wasn't here to meet us but certainly left enough little touches around the house to make us feel warmly greeted - including a personalized welcome sign and letter, local beer chilling in the fridge, a bottle of local wine, a big cuddly teddy bear, and plenty of other nicely laid out baby gear.

The apartment we've rented is lovely and spacious ... and the kids didn't waste any time spreading their toys everywhere!  There is even a pretty little patio with a kid's picnic table where we had a laid back lunch.  It's located about 4km outside a pretty little town about the size of Lunenburg.

After lunch, Doug made a quick call home to let his parents know we had arrived safely ... although I think he was more interested in letting them know what a nice rental car we got this time.  It just happens to be a brand new Diesel Passat Wagon with only 24km on it when we picked it up - Wilfred's dream car.  Doug may have rubbed it in a little.

The rest of our afternoon was spent relaxing and conserving our limited energy.  After a very simple pasta dinner there was time for baths and then a little silliness to round out the evening.

I'm off to tuck the little ones into bed now as Doug's already collapsed on the sofa in front of a German shopping channel!
