A Not So Simple Trip Home

It seemed so simple to get us all to Anguilla, but what a job it has been trying to get all of us home.  Elizabeth and Paul left on Saturday with a flight connecting through Toronto.  Their flight out of St. Maarten was delayed just enough to cause them to miss their connecting flight to Halifax.  Air Canada put them up at a hotel for the night but the prospects for getting out before the evening looked grim.  With a little bit of gentle pressure (and guilt tripping a la baby and sick hubby) they managed to get on an earlier flight and saved themselves a day hanging around the airport.

Then it was time for the rest of us to leave on Sunday.  It was so warm and sunny as we boarded our planes - David, Carolyn and Candace connecting to Calgary and Vancouver through Charlotte; and Kit, Gretchen, Christina, Doug, Noah and Catherine connecting to Halifax through Philadelphia.

It wasn't so simple, though.  Candace, Carolyn and David got held up clearing customs and missed their flights to Calgary and Vancouver.   They ended up staying the night in a hotel in Charlotte.

Then those of us bound for Halifax, arrived in Philadelphia to discover our flight to Halifax had been cancelled due to a snow storm.  The earliest flight we could get on was one leaving at 2:45pm on Monday, connecting through Boston.  So, we ended up spending a night at an airport hotel as well.

When we woke up this morning, every flight on the departures board was cancelled.  And so we wait, killing time and getting as many wiggles out of the kids as possible before we have to leave our hotel rooms.

Fortunately, the departures board is opening up now and our flight to Boston is showing on time.  Hopefully, we will all have made it home to our respective cities before the day is out.  Whether or not our luggage makes it too is anyone's guess.  ;)
