Taking a Vacation from Our Vacation

We started yet another beautiful day with a visit from some cows in the backyard of the house where we are staying.  Catherine was thrilled and threw them lots and lots of kisses and waves.  There really is something special about waking up to cows peacefully munching grass right next to your backyard.

With the sun shinning, we decided to head back to Hintersee for a walk around the lake.  We had wanted to spend some time at Hintersee on Saturday but with a sunny weekend it was just too crowded.  Things were much more peaceful today and we enjoyed a leisurely walk around the lovely lake surrounded by steep mountains.

The lake was incredibly still, with the surface almost glass-like in the quiet morning.  The water was incredibly clear allowing us to see the rocks and grass lining the bottom of the lake.  The lake was formed when glaciers receded during the last ice age and along one side of the lake there are huge boulders that look like they were dropped by the ice as it melted.

After our walk we stopped off at the grocery store to pick up some sliced meat and cheese to take back to our apartment for lunch.  The kids were more tired than usual - probably left over from all the walking and fresh air yesterday - so we settled them down for a nap in their beds before taking our lunch outside to enjoy on the balcony overlooking the mountains.

As the afternoon progressed the weather began to deteriorate.  By the time the kids woke up from their nap it had begun to rain a little bit and so we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon and evening just relaxing in the apartment.  It was a nice little 'vacation from our vacation'.
